The Arlington Church of Christ is a place where families come to grow. It is our mission to give children knowledge to build on and courage to grow. Through Sunday School, Kids Worship, Wednesday nights and Small Groups we strive to teach not just the details of our heritage in the Bible but how and why these stories of faith are relevant to their daily lives.
God has a purpose and a plan for every single child and He has the power to help every single child accomplish it. We use daily prayer, a lot of love, and the firm truths of God’s Word to plant the seed in the hearts and lives of our kids. Strong men and women are not born they are built. Arlington Church of Christ is a work in progress and always under construction. We hope you join us in our building project!

“Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.” – 1 Timothy 4:12
The Arlington Youth Group (AYG) are a diverse group of young men and women who know how to serve, how to worship and how to have a good time (often all at once). There are several times throughout the week when the teens meet for various reasons. On Sunday mornings at 9:30 they meet for Bible Study at the Annex (the house next door to the building) and to prepare their minds for worship. During worship you will see the teens all seated together towards the front of the church, actively participating and setting an “example for the believers.” On most Sunday evenings at 6:00 you will find them once again meeting in the Annex. This however is usually a time of fellowship and fun. Sometimes they will have a devotional or they may have a Wii tournament, a pizza party, a basketball game, or just sit around and play board games. On Wednesday evenings they meet once again at the Annex for Bible Study. Wednesdays are special because they are led by members of our Young Professionals group, who have become Christian mentors and teachers for the young men and women who are preparing to leave home for college and the world.
All are welcome to stop in and check out what is going on at the AYG. We love seeing new faces and we never send anyone away a stranger.

The Ladies Class at Arlington Church is devoted to prayer, Bible study, and fellowship. We come together every Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. in the church Fellowship Room (downstairs) during the school year (Labor Day to Memorial); we do not meet during summer months. Our past studies have included the Book of Ephesians, Beth Moore's study - "Breaking Free", and "The Joy of Fearing God" by Jerry Bridges. This spring we began our first annual "Arlington Voices," Arlington women sharing their faith, hearts, and hopes. Please come join this special group of women.

HONDURAS MISSION:
BIBLE LESSONS, HYGIENE, LATRINE
BUILDING AIM OF ARLINGTON SEVEN
Sponsored by the Arlington Church of Christ, seven members are prepared to leave Saturday, August 23 for a week-long mission trip to Honduras.
Led by April Barbour for the third year, the group includes Robert Burgess, Adilio Hernandez, Diana Munet, Roy Starkey, Esther Turner and LaToya Williams. The mission group will coordinate their work with Predisan, a medical clinic in the town of Catacamas. But they will travel even farther into the remote mountains of Eastern Honduras to the village of Montana Verde where they will interact with poor school children – teaching them Bible and personal hygiene -- and work in constructing latrines.
They will be carrying with them practical items such as shampoo, tooth brushes and toothpaste, as well as soccer balls for the village kids. They will teach them practical personal hygiene, offer them basic physical checkups and wash lice from their hair. They will stay in a barracks-like building with no modern amenities. Those who have gone before say the experience, although tiring, is heart warming and spirit building.
The trip is partially funded in the church budget and by individual contributions, but travelers will pay a portion of the costs themselves. The Elders encourage prayers for their safety and for their effective Christian interaction with the children and their families. |

Encouraging Signs of Growth
Seen in El Salvador Church
Three Arlington members who traveled to El Salvador May 23-27, returned encouraged with the stability and spiritual growth of the small band of Christians meeting in the western village of Platanares.
The group visited with the Platanares brethren and observed the current construction stage of the church building which was begun in 2003 after the first of several visits by Arlington members. Other visits followed in 2004 and later years. Members who traveled to El Salvador in May this year were Spanish-speaking deacons Nilson Argueta and Adilio Hernandez, and Lane Cubstead, an elder. The men were able to worship and pray with the Christians in the partially-completed building. They also consulted with a young preacher from the nearby town of Apaneca who is regularly helping the small congregation with teaching and preaching. There were about 20 in attendance on Sunday morning, May 25.
The brick and concrete church building has been erected using earthquake-resistant construction methods, and is based on a plan drawn by Justin Taylor of the Arlington congregation. The land on which the building sits was donated by Juan and Julia Hernandez, parents of Carmen Hernandez of this congregation. It is an attractive and spacious building located on the main road through the hilly town, erected with a high metal roof, and designed with large windows for circulation and light. Still lacking are a finished floor, security gratings, windows and doors.
Several have obeyed the Lord in baptism in the Platanares church this past year. The congregation meets three times each week, and plans are underway for regular Bible classes for children. |
