Why Worship?
Christian worship is a response to the character of God and to His actions for us. God is our creator, He provides for our every need, and needs nothing from us as humans (Acts 17:24-25). This power and perfection deserve praise. But he did not stop there: He allowed His son Jesus to be put to death for our wrongs and raised him to life to demonstrate Jesus' lordship. God forgives those who place their trust in Jesus (Philippians 3:7-11). He thus earns our thanks (Colossians 2:6-7). he has also guaranteed a reward and a promise of deliverance for those he has saved, prompting our praise (Ephesians 1:13-14).
What To Expect
The Lord Supper
"For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes." - 1 Corinthians 11:26 (NIV)
At some point during our worship we will participate in the Lord's Supper, sometimes referred to as communion. In this way Christians remember Jesus' sacrifice for us. We participate in this memorial every week, and all followers of Christ are welcome to participate with us (1 Corinthians 11:23-29).
Prayer
"I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone." - 1 Timothy 2:1 (NIV)
Our assembly will include several prayers. In them we communicate directly to God. We offer praise, express thanksgiving, make requests, and seek guidance and direction. Our assembly also includes a "Shepherd's Prayer" by one of our elders.
Singing
"Be filled with the Spirit. Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs." - Ephesians 5:18-19 (NIV)
We praise God and encourage each other by singing. The words and music will be projected on the screen above the worship leaders. We use more than one song leader to help lead specific vocal parts. If you don't read music, just listen for your part and sing along.
Scripture Reading and Preaching
"Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching." - 1 Timothy 4:13 (NIV)
The public reading and preaching from the Word of God is a vital part of our worship assembly. Understanding and applying scripture deepens our relationship with God and helps to transform us into better disciples of Jesus.
Giving
"On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income." - 1 Corinthians 16:2 (NIV)
This congregation's finances depend on contributions from our members. For convenience, we pass trays into which contributions may be palced (typically following the Lord's Supper). Please do not feel obligated while visiting with us.
