Art-Itudes Center

In a recent contest for youth in the South Dade area we asked them to tell us their plan to bring peace to the community. Overwhelmingly, they described domestic abuse that informed community violence. In response to this cry for help, Elijah Network plans to develop a performing arts center here with a collaboration of preventionists, artists, schools and churches called: Art-Itudes. Our first play will be "Where the Angry Things Are," giving a voice to the domestic abuse that gives rise to destructive behavior.
Based on the M. Sendak classic "Where the Wild Things Are," we hope to achieve the same catharsis and self-expression achieved by Max, the book's protagonist, but on a community wide level. Community members and youth would be involved not just as actors in the play, but as writers, directors, costume and set designers, promoters etc.; teaching and learning skills to put on artistic productions of their own. At the same time, mental health professionals and others from the helping professions would guide families and youth.
Just like people, communities have anger and frustration, and they need a place to put that energy. "Where the Angry Things Are" will give neighborhoods the chance to move towards healing and prevent violence.

 Welcome

The Elijah Network partners with churches, schools, and government agencies to build a positive youth development.

The Elijah Network Family and Community Alliance is a coalition made up of faith-based agencies and individuals who are actively involved in providing services for families and agencies that provide services to families.

Elijah Network is now offering Strong Families Academy online!

Check out any of our available model programs by clicking on the "Curriculum" link to decide what positive features you want to build into your family. DARE to be You is for families with children as young as 2 years and as old as 12 years. DARE to be You now has a family abstinence education component called CARE to Wait for adolescents 11-15 and their younger brothers or sisters. Strengthening Families is available for parents and children in need specific discipline and communication skills.

The family skills experts at Elijah Network will work with you to put together a program that is designed specifically for you and the children you love. Every week a packet will arrive by mail or email, if you desire, with all of the materials needed for your family lesson.

There are three lessons in every packet: 1 for parents, 1 for children and 1 for the family to learn their new skills together. Your weekly packet will also arrive with a "Kids in the Kitchen" recipe that you and your children can cook and enjoy together along with a weekly table talk topic called "Today I."

The lessons will be taught by Kate Witte M.S.E., C.P.P., a specialist in family counseling. You will meet on Skype or if you prefer you may use an online chat program. The choice is yours; either way parents and children will build stronger relationships in the privacy of their own homes.
